NAS1130 Revision 3 

Long time readers of KATO Fastening News will recall in the January-February 2003 issue we announced the addition of the 5/16 & 3/8 UNC and UNF thread sizes to the Kato Tangless® product line.  Since then Kato Fastening Systems (KFS) has been selling the 5/16 & 3/8 Tangless inserts to customers using the Kato part numbers.  However, the lack of a commercial or aerospace standard made it difficult for some aerospace and defense customers to procure these sizes.  

In 2004 Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation (A United Technologies Company) sponsored an NASC project to add the 5/16 & 3/8 Tangless inserts to NAS1130, the specification covering Tangless inserts.  The project was approved and in October 2006 the National Aerospace Standards Committee (NASC) released revision 3 of NAS1130.

The only change in Revision 3 of NAS1130 was the addition of the following Tangless thread sizes to the specification:

  • 5/16-18 (UNC)

  • 5/16-24 (UNF)

  • 3/8-16 (UNC)
  • 3/8-24 (UNF)

Like all Kato Tangless inserts the new sizes are available in self-locking and free-running types; bulk and strip feed packaging; and with optional dry film lubricant or cadmium plating.

In addition, KFS offers a complete line of prewinder style hand installation tools, and front end assemblies for the pneumatic installation tools.
