Instructions for using KATO TCIC, TCIF & TCIM Series Hand Installation Tools

Printable Version

  • Adjust the stop collar for the insert length  and installation depth.  Locate the collar on the mandrel so as to contact the body of the prewinder when the mandrel projects a distance equal to (approximately) the insert length plus 1/2 pitch.

  • Pull the mandrel to the back of the prewinder and place the insert into this well.  There is no need to orient the insert, tangless inserts are bi-directional.

  • Rotate the mandrel until the pawl engages the insert notch.  Continue to rotate mandrel until the insert projects beyond the tool tip 1-2 turns.

  • Place the tool against the tapped hole and rotate the mandrel until the stop collar contacts the body of the prewinder.

  • Retract the mandrel.  Check installation for proper depth and readjust the stop collar if necessary.

PAWL REPLACEMENT:

Follow the procedures below to replace a worn or broken pawl.

  • Loosen the round lock nut from the prewinder sleeve.

  • Slide the prewinder sleeve off the threaded mandrel.

  • Push out the cross pin, be careful not to lose the pin.

  •  Remove the pawl from the mandrel slot, be careful not to lose the spring.

  • Insert the replacement pawl into the mandrel slot.

  • Line up the holes and press in the cross pin.

  • Check for spring action and free movement of the pawl in the mandrel slot.

  •  Thread the lock nut and adjusting sleeve back onto the mandrel.
