Adjust the
stop collar for the insert length
and installation depth.
Locate the collar on the mandrel so as to contact the body of
the prewinder when the mandrel projects a distance equal to
(approximately) the insert length plus 1/2 pitch.

Pull the
mandrel to the back of the prewinder and place the insert into this
well. There is no need
to orient the insert, tangless inserts are bi-directional.

Rotate the
mandrel until the pawl engages the insert notch.
Continue to rotate mandrel until the insert projects beyond
the tool tip 1-2 turns.

Place the
tool against the tapped hole and rotate the mandrel until the stop
collar contacts the body of the prewinder.

Retract the
mandrel. Check
installation for proper depth and readjust the stop collar if
necessary.
PAWL
REPLACEMENT:
Follow
the procedures below to replace a worn or broken pawl.

Loosen the
round lock nut from the prewinder sleeve.

Slide the prewinder sleeve off the
threaded mandrel.

Push out the cross pin, be careful
not to lose the pin.

Remove
the pawl from the mandrel slot, be careful not to lose the spring.

Insert the replacement pawl into
the mandrel slot.

Line up the holes and press in the
cross pin.

Check for spring action and free
movement of the pawl in the mandrel slot.

Thread
the lock nut and adjusting sleeve back onto the mandrel.
