Part Number  Description
CT5407 Power Transformer
CT5408 Self-Reversing Keyless Chuck Electric Driver

Important Notes:

  1. This tool has a Quick-Disconnect, Keyless Chuck, and is designed for use with the KATO Hex Shank Tangless 2CTSB-series Installation Tools.

  2. The driver is factory assembled with the low torque range spring under the nut collar.  The high torque range spring is packed in the box (do not throw out).  Instructions for using and changing the two springs are noted below.

  3. The low torque range spring is for installing insert sizes 2-56. 4-40, 6-32, and M2.5-M4.

  4. The high torque range spring is for installing insert sizes 6-32 thru 1/4" and M4-M6.

Assembly:

  • Attach power cord from transformer to electric driver and tighten knurled ring on both ends finger tight.

  • Plug transformer into standard 110 VAC outlet.

  • Set transformer output to the Low speed setting and make sure transformer power is Off until ready for use.

  • Assemble the Hex Shank Mandrel into the Quick Disconnect Chuck of Electric Driver, by pressing in the 3/8" diameter collar at the end of the driver.  This allows the hex shank of the mandrel to go freely into the chuck.  Once the shank is in place, release the collar.

  •  Put electric driver directional switch in the For (forward) position - note this switch is located on the side of the driver opposite the trigger,  for insert installation this switch should always be set in the for position and the driver will reverse direction automatically.

Operation:

  • Adjust the torque of the driver to the lowest setting by turning the knurled barrel located at the front of the tool toward the chuck. (Note: It may be difficult to press or see the 3/8" diameter collar mentioned above when the knurled barrel is set at the lowest setting.  To remove or insert the hex shank mandrel simply tighten the knurled barrel until the collar is visible.)

  • With the transformer set to the Low speed setting, turn the power switch to On and press the trigger on the driver to test the operation of the unit.  Check to see that the mandrel is correctly positioned in the chuck.

Changing the Torque Range Spring:

  • Press the knurled nut at the end of the driver and rotate it counter-clock-wise until it comes off of the tool.  Remove the factory installed, low torque range spring, and replace with the high torque rage spring, or vice-versa. (Note: to distinguish between springs, the high torque spring is stronger, has a larger wire diameter, and is more difficult to compress.)

Installation procedure:

  • Follow the instructions for installing tangless inserts with the 2CTSB series of installation tools.

  • Start with the lowest torque setting and increase as required to reach the minimum torque level that will install the insert.  This will minimize the possibility of breaking the mandrel or pawl  and increase tool life.  As operator skill increases, set the transformer output to Hi for faster production rates.
