Instructions for using KATO CAB Series Tang Break-Off Tools

Printable Version

After installation, the driving tangs of CoilThread® Inserts must be removed to prevent interference with assembled bolts or screws, and to ensure full thread engagement with the entire insert length.  In addition, this allows for the entry of the bolt or screw from either end of the insert.

1.      Insert the punch end of the tool into the installed insert so that the punch contacts the tang, and the plastic tip rests on the work piece surface.

2.      Grasp the handle of the  tool and press the barrel forward.  The punch delivers a sharp, uniform blow that cleanly breaks off the tang.

NOTE:
Do not attempt to break the tang using the CoilThread® Installation Tool.  This can result in an improperly broken off tang and/or damage to the tapped hole and installation tool.

For insert sizes above ˝ inch or M12, use long nose needle pliers to break the tang.

See catalog for information on replacing worn or damaged punches.
